We, members of the community of European students at Berklee College of Music, Boston University, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Tufts University,

Recognise that our identity as European citizens builds on the common values of:

  • Awareness of our common past: our historical legacy which has allowed us to mature, and our intellectual engagement to find better solutions;
  • Plurality: our belief in democratic values, a shared mission and vision, so all may benefit;
  • Diversity: a family of countries, each with its own original identity and culture, that are united to build better societies;
  • Openness: open borders, open societies, and minds open to new ideas;
  • Civic Engagement: commitment to pursuing peace and respect of human rights, commitment to inclusive progress, and commitment to European cooperation;

Recognise that our community in Boston takes on the responsibility to nurture these values and translate them into action, to better know each other, to become closer, to build on each other’s knowledge and networks, to share with the academic community around us more of the debate and thoughts that animate Europe and the European project.

Therefore, we commit, as individuals and members of this community, to:

  • celebrate altogether Europe Day on May 9, from this year onwards;
  • establish close links between the Societies of European countries in the Boston area;
  • encourage the generation of opportunities to share what Europe represents for us and our families among our European community, and with the broader academic community;
  • foster regular social interactions and networking among us;
  • create public opportunities to discuss the European project, its roots, its strengths, its challenges and our vision for its future;
  • gather outside perspectives on Europe from the broader community in Boston;
  • inspire regular exchanges on social media on topics of relevance to the success of European socio-economic and political stability;
  • actively support on-campus activities focusing on Europe;
  • use – to the possible extent – our studies and research to bring forward a true European perspective, share knowledge deriving from the research and debate in Europe, and contribute to European integration and Transatlantic relationships.

We acknowledge the challenges of maintaining active participation. We will ensure that these commitments, irrespective of the current vicissitudes of the European integration process, translate into actions by gathering individual interests to lead on them and engage the various students’ groups, associations, clubs, and societies to drive effectively the development of our community forward into the future.
